Police in the San Francisco Bay Area have a new fashion recommendation for ladies going grocery shopping. Take a mountain climbing carabiner with you! It’s the new must-have accessory if you want to make it out of the store with your purse or handbag in your possession.
There has been such a rash of thefts at a Trader Joe’s in Livermore (east of Oakland) that the police are putting out warnings across the Bay Area. Women who mistakenly think that they still live in a high–trust society are leaving their purses and handbags in their shopping carts while buying groceries. When they turn away for just a second to look at the fresh produce, BAM! They’ve been robbed.
Police now recommend taking a mountain climbing carabiner to the store so ladies can attach their bags to the shopping cart.
That’s… that’s their solution?
Maybe it’s been a while since the police in California have heard this advice, but there are some other more effective ways to deter thieves.
For example, if cops tackle a thief and then club him or her in the legs with a nightstick until they can’t walk for three days, thefts and robberies would swiftly decline. Allowing citizens to carry firearms so they can shoot robbers in the face is another proven method. Or, you know, you could simply allow the police to arrest them.
Since there’s no downside to theft and robbery in the Bay Area, guess what’s happening? The taxpayers who pay the salaries of cops and prosecutors who don’t punish criminals are being victimized by the rising numbers of criminals. It turns out that with Democrats in charge of your state for decades, you don’t actually get what you paid for.
Recommending that people use a carabiner to secure their handbags at the store isn’t a solution. It’s an insult from their failed leaders.
