The roughly 2,000 Buick dealerships across America were given an offer from GM recently: Either continue to let unsold GM electric vehicles (EVs) gather dust on the lot or accept a buyout from GM. More than half took the buyout since dealers have quickly come to the sobering realization that no one else wants an EV. Anyone who did want one of the silly toys already has one.
Following the buyout, Buick will only have 1,000 remaining dealerships across the country that are going to try to adhere to Joe Biden’s communist Green New Deal. Those remaining Buick dealerships will have to invest millions into retooling their shops to service and sell the EVs that no one wants. The upfront cash would be for electric vehicle chargers and employee training, among other pointless endeavors.
While the dealers who took the buyout can no longer sell the Buick brand, they can still offer Chevy and GMC vehicles that people actually want to buy.
The move by Buick dealerships comes as car dealers across the country are begging Joe Biden to abandon this folly. Some dealerships now have six months’ worth of old EV inventory cluttering up their lots and gathering dust because they simply cannot sell them.
Dealers sent Biden a letter begging, “With each passing day, it becomes more apparent that this attempted electric vehicle mandate is unrealistic based on current and forecasted customer demand. Already, electric vehicles are stacking up on our lots which is our best indicator of customer demand in the marketplace.”
A damning new report from Consumer Reports shows that electric vehicles actually have 80% more repair problems than regular gas-powered vehicles, which creates even less incentive for buyers to rush out and purchase an EV.
